Ronny Dean Johnson of McCamey, age 61, passed away on January 27, 2020.

Ronny was born on May 20, 1958 in McCamey to LaDonna (Nevill) and Jimmy Johnson. Ronny grew up on the Nevill farms just outside of McCamey, the family land his great-grandfather homesteaded. It was here, and at the family ranch in Toyah, that Ronny learned from his grandparents Harold and Mae Nevill, to ranch the land and work cattle. His family instilled in Ronny a deep love for his land, the cattle, and horses that were part of the ranch, a love Ronny taught his children.

Ronny married the love of his life, Teddy Gail Gardner, in 1977, and they shared 42 wonderful years together on the land they loved. Ronny was especially fond of hunting in Toyah with his group of friends that included best friend Woody and his son Chase. They can remember watching Ronny chase deer across the pasture in his jeep at the 2 sections and shouting “shut the gate” so that no cattle would escape. No one yelled that better than Ronny Dean! Ronny was proud to be a rancher, for it was in this lifestyle that Ronny learned about hardships, but also about the pride that comes from preserving the family heritage and building a legacy for future generations. Ronny also loved his family and did his best to be a man that they could look up to; all who knew him knows that behind that rough exterior was a big heart. Although his family feels a great sense of loss without him, they know how much he loved them and have many great memories of him.

Ronny is preceded in death by his grandparents, Harold and Mae Nevill. He is survived by his devoted and beloved wife Gail Johnson; his mother Lou Walters and husband Dave, whom Ronny was very close to; his father, Jimmy Johnson and wife Beverly; children, Kristie, Marilyn Kay, and Paul Johnson, and wife Katie; grandchildren, Amanda, Amber, Tawny, Annie, Quince IV, River, Hannah, Eric, Shiloh, Rebecca, Joshua, and Regan; great-grandchildren Khloe and Nicholas.

In keeping with Ronny passion for his land, there will be a private memorial service at his ranch in Toyah at a later date. The family would like to extend their most heartfelt thanks to all of those who reached out to comfort them in the days after Ronny’s passing and during his illness.
