Obituary

Juanita Gutierrez Garcia, age 93, passed away at the McCamey County Hospital on Tuesday, April 28, 2020.

She was born on June 22, 1926, in Sheffield, Texas and was raised by her grandmother, Sotera Garcia. Juanita married Honorato (Nato) Garcia on April 11, 1948, in Sanderson, Texas and was married 69 years. Together they built a God-Loving family. They packed up and moved to McCamey, Texas in 1968, where they made their forever home. Juanita was a devoted Catholic and faithfully attended St. James Catholic Church in Sanderson and subsequently the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in McCamey. She was a member of the Alter Society where she found many lasting friendships. Praying the Rosary in the evenings always filled her heart with love and joy. Her deep belief in God sustained her whole life. She was always thankful for all her blessings.

Juanita was most happy when her family gathered together to celebrate special occasions. She loved her grand, great and great great grandchildren.

Her other great love was working in her garden, tending to her flowers and watching all the different colors come to life. She had the biggest green thumb and could make anything blossom.

We will miss her every day, but she taught us all to trust in God and always be grateful. We will carry all of her lessons in our heart.

She was a resident of the McCamey Convalescent Center for the past year. We wish to thank the nursing home and the McCamey Hospital for caring for her and guiding her home.

She is survived by her two daughters, Virginia Fuentes (Pete), Julia Galindo (Lupe), and a son, Manuel Garcia (Trudy). She was blessed with 5 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Honorato; sister, Gavina Moreno, brother, Roque Lopez, and step sister, Lupe Escañe.

Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm on Friday, May 1, 2020, at the Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home in McCamey. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 2, 2020 at the Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home Chapel. Due to health restrictions, chapel services are limited to family only. The family asked that you meet them at the gravesite following the services around 11:30. Burial will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Edward Fuentes, Gabriel Galindo, Aaron Perales, Gavin Fuentes, Ryan Perales, Carlos M. Carrasco, Carson Fuentes. Honorary pallbearers will be Adam Gregory, Brayden Fuentes, Javier Carrasco, Jaime Nunez, Pete Fuentes, Lupe Galindo, Michael Perales, Carlos Carrasco, Vicente Moreno Sr., Julia Lopez, Johnny Lopez, Noah Galindo, and Avani Zubiate.

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” Philippians 4:6
