Obituary

Evans Turpin passed away unexpectedly on March 20, 2020 at the age of 85. He was born in Bastrop, Louisiana on December 19, 1934 to S.E. “Bud” Turpin and Mary Mae Dimmick.

Evans was a long-time resident of Iraan, Texas. He was a Petroleum Engineer who worked for Marathon Oil Company for 29 years. He retired in 1986. He was past mayor of the town and active in the Iraan Methodist Church and the Iraan Archeological Society for many years. He and his late wife, Alice, loved to travel the United States in their Motorhome together.

Evans was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Alice Jean Card Turpin.
Evans is survived by his daughter, Shirley Casassa and grandchildren, Christina, Bryan and Pat; son, Allen Turpin and grandchildren, Shawna and Edward and Bruce Turpin and wife DeBora and grandchildren, Adam Turpin and Summer Howard and great grandchildren, Capri and Elmer Howard. Also, a brother, Richard Turpin and children, Amy and Jon Turpin and a sister, Patsy O’Brien Hall and children, Tracy Mauldin and Dyer Chapman.

There will be Memorial service for Evans in the near future.

I met Evans as a young engineer working for Marathon. He was so helpful, great at mentoring the new hires, a wealth of knowledge, & respected by all who knew him. Condolences to his family. I know he will be greatly missed.

Evans was my first supervisor at Marathon. He help me navigate 29 years with Marathon. He was a great mentor and friend. He made my family and I fell at home when every we were fortunate enough the get to spent time with him. I also enjoyed the Geology Classes and field trips he lead. My Prayers are with the family.

Evans was first and the best supervisor I ever had in my 40 years with Marathon Oil Company. I will miss him. My condolences to you all, especially Allen and Bruce.
